After months of MAGA Republicans holding our economy hostage, the Biden administration and Congress have finally reached an agreement to raise the debt ceiling, prevent a national default, and preserve critical federal programs. The budget deal President Biden secured isn’t perfect, but it protects jobs, veterans’ benefits, historic climate change investments passed in 2022 and vital health care benefits, while preserving mainly the social safety net.
Together, the activism of MoveOn members prevented Republicans in Congress from dragging us all into catastrophic failure and stopped MAGA Republicans from undermining the social and economic progress MoveOn members have fought for over the past two years. We increased the pressure on vulnerable House Republicans in rotating districts through rallies, floods of calls to their office phone lines, and advertisements calling for their complicity in maintaining the MAGA agenda. Together, we halted the longstanding Republican goal to gut and privatize Social Security and Medicare.
The fight for an America where everyone can thrive is far from over.join us at our next monthly Volunteer Network Call and find out how you can connect to this work!
We must act now more than ever. Every conversation you have with your neighbors, every rally you attend, and every call to Congress you make is critical to combating extremist MAGA ideology in 2024. Vulnerable Republicans in Congress are counting on our apathy to sail to another term. We — and the tens of millions of Americans whom House Republicans betrayed by voting neck and neck for a far-right budget in April — will not forget in 2024.
We will not forget how, for months, MAGA Republicans fabricated a crisis by using our livelihoods and our social safety net as bargaining chips to enrich their backers while risking dragging down our economy. MoveOn members will ensure voters remember the efforts of MAGA Republicans to undermine the progress we fought for and create real political consequences for them at the polls in 2024.
