Netflix has been full of anime shows based on popular franchises during the last years. Although most of them come from video games, the next series of the steamer, Skull Island, is based on the Legendary MonsterVerse movies and continues the story of everyone’s favorite giant ape, King Ka long time.
Apparently set some time after the events of Kong’s 2017 film, the show follows brothers Charlie (Nicolas Cantu) and Mike (Darren Barnet), who have just woken up on the island after being shipwrecked. Before any of them become monster food, they are rescued by Annie (Mae Whitman), who has been on the island long enough to make a giant dog-like monster her best friend. Together, the children must find the others survivors of Charlie and Mike’s ship, which also happens to include its captain and thehis father (Benjamin Bratt).
Or Skull the first trailer last month was meant to set the tone, this news shows other monsters the survivors will have to fight if they want to leave the island alive, of which there are many. (At least one of them will be another Skincrawler, which Kong had to fight in the Skull Island movie.) Kong himself makes a few appearances throughout, and it looks like he’ll be doing what he does best: saving humans and bombarding monsters with his fists or his own teeth. This all sounds like a pretty fun time and should be a good way to tide people over until it ends up comes back in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire next year.
All episodes of Skull Island will be presented on Thursday, June 22 on Netflix.
