The first named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season formed Friday in the Gulf of Mexico.
Tropical Storm Arlene is currently heading for the western tip of Cuba, according to forecasters from the National Hurricane Center in an early afternoon update.
Maximum sustained winds increased to nearly 40 mph, with stronger gusts, about 265 miles west of Fort Myers, Florida.
No storm watches or warnings were issued for Cuba or Florida.
The Atlantic season officially started on June 1 and lasts until the end of November.
