Best Mac Mini Deals: Take Up to $100 Off a New M2 Mac Mini

Apple’s upgraded line of Mac Mini desktop computers officially hit shelves in January, and the latest models offer welcome upgrades over the previous generation. They feature the company’s new M2 and M2 Pro processors, and start at $100 less than their M1-powered predecessors. The 256GB model starts at $599. And, somewhat surprisingly, we’re already starting to see discounts appear, with Amazon currently offering up to $49 off. There is also a new and improved model with a Professional level chip, and starts at $1,299. However, you can grab one for $100 less right now, which is the lowest price we’ve seen yet.

You’ll find the new Mac Mini M2s available now from Apple, as well as major retailers. And although Apple no longer sells the M1 version, you can still find a few of those older models floating around there. And while you can even pick up some of these previous generation models on salebetween older hardware and the lower starting price of newer generations, you’re probably better off with an M2 model.

Amazon is pretty much the only retailer offering discounts right now, but there are some advantages to paying full price at Apple. Buying from Apple directly lets you customize the machine and add more RAM or a larger capacity SSD, while models sold on Amazon and other retailers are fixed configurations. And unlike most other desktop computers, the Mac Mini’s RAM can’t be user-upgraded. Apple’s M2 system-on-chip integrates the CPU, GPU, RAM, and other components for increased power and efficiency, but the downside to this integration is the lack of DIMM slots that would allow you to add additional RAM after purchase.

Apple Student Discounts and Refurbishments

It should be noted that the The Apple Store offers students an education discount, where you can save $100 off the price of a new Mac Mini. Some upgrades are also discounted. For example, doubling the RAM to 16GB costs $180 with the student discount instead of the usual $200 fee.

Also at Apple, you might find a refurbished Mac Mini on the Certified Refurbished Mac Page, but it’s too early to find a refurbished M2, and we don’t recommend buying an older Intel-based Mac Mini. And a refurbished M1 should be much cheaper than the new M2 models at their lower starting prices. Still, it’s worth keeping an eye out for, as you can make substantial savings. Apple refurbishes are a great way to save money and are often like new.

It’s $599 from Apple, already $100 less than the M1 version, and right now you can save a few bucks on Amazon and pick one up for $580. While this isn’t a huge discount, it’s the best price you’ll find on the base M2 Mini model right now.

The upgraded Mac Mini boosts storage up to 512GB, an increased capacity that most people will benefit from, since 512GB is about the smallest SSD we recommend for any desktop computer. It already lists $100 less than the M1 version, and right now you can save $50 on Amazon. However, we’ve seen it available for as low as $700, so you might want to wait for another deal if you’re not in a rush to grab one.

For the first time, the Mac Mini offers a Pro chip from the Apple range. The base Mac Mini with the M2 Pro costs $1,299 and has 16GB of RAM – double that of the M2 models – and a 512GB SSD. The M2 Pro chip has 10 CPU cores and 16 cores of GPU compared to the M2 chip with eight CPU cores and 10 GPU cores. The M2 Pro model also doubles the number of Thunderbolt 4 ports to four.
