Live Nation has acquired a majority stake in Hong Kong-based event organizer Clockenflap.
Clockenflap specializes in music festivals and concerts, and its flagship festival Clockenflap Music and Arts is described as “one of Asia’s best-known festival brands”.
The Clockenflap team will continue to curate, manage and produce its festivals and events, now with access to Live Nation’s festival portfolio and resources, according to a press release.
The Clockenflap Music and Arts Festival returned from March 3-5, after a four-year hiatus, with a sold-out event featuring artists including Arctic Monkeys (UK), Balming Tiger (Korea), Bombay Bicycle Club (UK), The Cardigans (Sweden), Chai (Japan), HYBS (Thailand), Leenalchi (Korea), Miletus (Japan), NYPD (Hong Kong), Wu-Tang Clan (USA) and Yellow (Taiwan).
Founded in 2008, the three-day, 30,000 a day cap festival takes place annually at the Central Harbourfront Event Space in Hong Kong.
The festival has announced the dates for its next edition, which will take place from December 1 to 3, 2023.
Clockenflap also hold regular concert tours in Hong Kong under the Clockenflap Presents brand, with recent sold-out shows announced for Cigarettes After Sex and Honne.
Live Nation says its partnership with Clockenflap comes as events across Asia, particularly in Hong Kong, see “a blossoming of activity”.
Justin Sweeting, co-founder and musical director of Clockenflap, said that the support and resources that Live Nation brings “will help the Clockenflap Music and Arts Festival solidify its position as one of the best urban festivals in the world”.
“It was a wonderful feeling to see such a large crowd at the festival last weekend – Clockenflap has one of the most positive and open-minded audiences in the world,” Sweeting said.
“The Live Nation team shares our vision of Clockenflap as one of the best urban festivals in the world, and with Live Nation’s support and resources, I’m excited for the future of the festival.”
“The partnership with Clockenflap further demonstrates that Live Nation is committed to bringing world-class festivals and live entertainment experiences to Hong Kong fans.”
